What's important about a banner ad? Cut-through? Clickability? Memorability? Yes, all that of course, but let's not discount functionality. Banner ads can do stuff. They can be written to accept data feeds, so that live information is displayed within a banner. If the creative wrapper is set beforehand, it needn't look too much like a data feed either.
