Back in 2002, everyone talked about online tyre ordering; some even claimed to offer it (you can guess who), but the reality fell way short of a satisfying, joined up online process.
Our bespoke solution, created entirely from scratch, was a truly comprehensive system that dealt equally with 3 different stakeholder group interests - customers, trade partners and Michelin themselves. The front end presentation was as strong as the back end management and reporting system - no element was left out and no detail considered too small for inclusion. From helping customers identify the tyre size and speed rating their car demanded, through to allowing fully customised brand search, the system went on to offer full ordering and scheduling of fitting services. Our powerful but intuitive back office system allowed liaison with included fitters (Vehicle Franchise Workshops), as well as the facility to amend/ update pricing and availability information on the fly.
Though not in use today, the system remains one of the best online applications we've ever created, and it would be class-leading even today, 6 years after launch. Truly commercial and typical of the vision and creativity we bring to all sophisticated e-business challenges that come our way, our in-house systems integration and online security skills were impressively deployed.
